Have you experienced unusual accidents, sickness, poverty, addictions, or broken relationships? This is not about the seasonal cold or flu. This is about patterns of adversity that happens from generation to generation. When this occurs repeatedly a curse could be attached to your family bloodline. And curses need to be broken. The online dictionary defines a curse as, “evil or misfortune that comes as if in response to a curse or as retribution; a cause of great harm or misfortune : torment.” Sadly, many live unknowingly with generational curses passed on from one generation to another. Generational curses are inherited and will continue until it is recognized and stopped. And even if you were not the one who committed the sin, generational curses don’t die when a person dies, they continue the malicious cycle in the next generation. A family member who sins knowingly or unknowingly opens a family portal for the enemy to access. This occurs when an ancestor (e.g., father, mother, grandparents, etc.) sins. This could be through greed, serving other gods, perversion, etc. the consequences transfer until someone in that lineage takes authority and says, “This ends with me!” In Numbers 14:1, we learn about the consequences of ancestral sin. “The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.” The guilty family member is not cleared of his or her sins, and sadly the consequences will often travel down the family’s bloodline. Numbers 14:1 says they continue on to the third and fourth generation. A generational curse will manifest as patterns of sin, sickness, poverty, mental illness, or some unusual struggle. NOTE: Not every sickness or struggle are generational curses. Some adversities are the result of poor habits that need correction. For example, if a person is always late for work or special events, that’s not a generational curse. It’s that person's poor habits. When they change their habits and correct the behavior lateness disappears. However, if every year at the same time a person gets "the crud," or family members pass away prematurely; or there is a history of alcoholism this could be a strong indicator of a generational curse. How to Break Generational Bloodline Curses First step is awareness. God may reveal this to you in prayer, or you may become keenly aware of repeated patterns in your life or in your family. Once there is an awareness, steps can be taken to resolve it. Second step recognize the signs of a generational curse. Here are some common signs of a bloodline curse: ⚠️ Repeated cycles of divorce or abuse ⚠️ Addictions that run in the family ⚠️ Chronic sickness or mental illness ⚠️ Barrenness or miscarriage ⚠️ Occult involvement in your ancestry ⚠️ Poverty mindset or lack despite hard work ⚠️ Premature death in the family Third step is break generational bloodline curses. It’s time to declare war on generational bloodline curses. Remember, whatever is not demolished and destroyed will be transferred to the next generation. And while the battle may not have started with you, it can end with you. By the authority of Christ generational curses will not remain in your life, and it will not transfer to the next generation. Say out loud “This stops with me.” Here are five steps to break a generational curse: 1.Repent for the sins of your ancestors “But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors... then I will remember my covenant.” Leviticus 26:40 2.Renounce and break all agreements “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.” 2 Corinthians 6:17 Declare: “I renounce every generational curse, vow, and ungodly agreement made by my ancestors. I break every soul tie and spiritual contract with darkness!” 3.Apply the blood of Jesus “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.” Revelation 12:11 Declare: “The blood of Jesus cleanses me and sets me free from every generational curse. I am redeemed and covered!” 4.Replace the curse with obedience Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 for the lists of blessings connected to obedience. 5.Walk in your new identity “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 Once generational bloodline curses are pulled down it's time live as someone who is free. Be intentional. Walk in truth, study the Word, stay in prayer, and shut every door the enemy once used to bring curses through the sins of your ancestors. Until next time... Keep growing, praying, and walking in freedom. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
