All prophets are watchmen, but not all watchmen are prophets. The scribal watchman prophet, or scribal watchman for short, is a divine assignment; a calling; a responsibility that comes with great responsibility. The watchman prophet is an operation; a function within the office of the prophet. Ezekiel is a biblical example of how God calls the watchman prophet. Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me. -Ezekiel 3:17 Both the natural and spiritual watchman are have the responsibility to "stand guard, protect, warn, and steward a specific area." The natural watchman are known by the following titles: “security guard, doorman, caretaker, steward, etc.” They are hired to protect a home, business, agency, or organization. The natural watchman is a paid position. Training as a security guard is required by the state of employment. The spiritual watchman, on the other hand, is not a paid position. Spiritual watchmen are handpicked by God. They have a divine calling by God to warn, guard, protect, and cry aloud regarding matters God wants to release to a specific people, group, or organization. The call of the spiritual watchman is not to be taken lightly. When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. Ezekiel 3:18-19 All watchmen are prophets, but not all prophets are watchmen. The role is very distinct. It is not an elevated position above any of those who walk as prophets, but it comes with a much greater level of responsibility than those who serve in the office of the prophet. “Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.” Ezekiel 3:20-21 In these end times, there is an increasing call to awaken the scribal watchman prophet. The scribal watchman prophet carries a unique mantle that merges prayer, intercession, listening to warn, and writing to release. This calling is not only powerful but deeply weighty, requiring a heart postured in obedience, sensitivity, and consecration. Ezekiel 3:16–27 offers one of the clearest biblical blueprints for understanding this prophetic office and its scribal expression. At its core, a watchman prophet is assigned by God to watch over a people, place, or purpose. They are commissioned to warn, write, and intercede based on what they see and hear in the spirit, and to not do so brings dire consequences to the watchman called by God. The Scribal Watchman’s Assignment The scribal watchman can also speak what God is saying to them; however, their primary responsibility is to write what they see, hear, and discern. Their pen becomes a prophetic trumpet. Their journal is the scroll. There is an urgency to capture divine intelligence in writing—warnings, revelations, intercessory burdens, and heavenly strategies—often before they manifest in the natural realm. Like Ezekiel, the scribal watchman is often isolated, consecrated, and called to speak and write only what the Lord commands. If God doesn't release a word, the scribal watchman is required to remain silent. In Ezekiel 3:26–27, God tells Ezekiel: "I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth so that you shall be mute... But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth..." The scribal watchman prophet must walk with prophetic restraint that requires a discipline of silence until the appointed time. Scribal watchmen prophets are not led by opinion or urgency to be heard. They are moved by obedience, recording God’s words even when no one else is listening. They recognize God’s timing and wait for God to instruct them to open the scroll when the time is right. Characteristics of a Scribal Watchman Prophet
Why This Call Matters Now In an age of noise and distraction, God is reactivating scribal watchmen who will sit in the secret place, record divinely inspired visions and dreams, and sound the alarm through writing, speaking, or intercessory action. Scribal watchmen prophets do not chase platforms—they build altars. If you journal or know you need to journal the things that God shows you in the night or the warnings no one else seems to understand, or you carry messages that burn in your bones this may be your confirmation. The call of the scribal watchman is not popular, it is a function within the office of the prophet. It is not glamorous, it is governmental. If this is you, will you answer the call and take your post on the wall? Next Steps: Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
