Let's face it we have all procrastinated at some point and time in our life.  Procrastination is a part of our humanity; however, when it becomes a habit is when the problems start rolling in.  As an aspiring writer when procrastination becomes the norm it's time to look for a solution so that you can get your work published and out into the world!
So, to help you conquer procrastination and get things done here are seven practical solutions.
  1. Become aware. Procrastination can sneak up on you.  Recognize how procrastination keeps you from doing the best work.  Avoid using procrastination to motivate you to get things done.  Awareness helps conquer procrastination.
  2. Develop a plan.  Take a few hours to map out what is needed.  Your plan will give you focus and allow large projects to become small manageable actions that help you get it done.
  3. Avoid waiting for inspiration.  Make inspiration happen.  Set your atmosphere and you will generate the inspiration needed rather than waiting for inspiration.
  4. Eliminate distractions.  Distractions can deter you from accomplishing important goals to working on your book.  Eliminate distractions by reducing the chances of hinderances to your work.
  5. Create a routine.  Routines become habits.  Create a routine that will become a natural part of your writing routine.
  6. Have an accountability partner.  Writing can be lonely, but it doesn't have to be.  Connect with an accountability partner or writing coach that can help you finish strong.
  7. Reward yourself.  At the end of meeting your pre-established deadline reward yourself with something you really enjoy.  Maybe it is treating yourself to the spa or grabbing your favorite cup of coffee or taking a day off from writing.  Make your reward something worth working for and conquer procrastination.
Happy Writing!
