Five Ways to Tell if You are Running from Your Call

Are you running from your Kingdom assignment?  Do you know what God has called you to do and, yet you run from it?  In this message we will take closer look at the life of the prophet Jonah.  Jonah was documented as one who knowingly ran from his assignment. God handpicked Jonah to carry a message to Nineveh.  You see,the news of Nineveh's wickedness had come before God and He needed someone to carry a warning to the people in Nineveh.  God, in His mercy does nothing unless He first informs His servants, the prophets (Amos 3:7).  The hour is late and all hands are needed to occupy and fulfill their God-given tasks.  Enough said, let's look at the five ways to tell if you are running from the assignment God has called to do.

  1. Awareness. The word of the LORD came to Jonah with instructions to go warn Nineveh.  If you know that you are called to perform a specific task this awareness and neglect to act is the first sign.
  2. Avoidance.  Jonah heard God and, yet he made a conscious decision to reject the request and head away from Nineveh.  Rejecting an assignment does not release a person from the call.
  3. Acknowledgement.  Fierce storms forced Jonah to confess that he was the problem.  If you are aware that you are called and avoid it, be not surprised when trouble shakes you into acknowledging the sovereignty of the Creator who assigned the task.  If He called you, then He knows you are qualified and capable of fulfilling the call.
  4. Aloneness.  Decision making happens in isolation where no phones or humans to consult.  Jonah had no choice but to make a decision.  Trapped in isolation he either was going to Nineveh and fulfill his assignment or die!  No options.  No getting out.  No turning back!  He was the man for the job and he knew it!  Release from the belly of a great fish required a "YES!"
  5. Acceptance.  Jonah realized he had to stop fighting his assignment.  Sometimes the task may not be pleasant.  You may not like the people you are sent to.  You may know that you are going to be rejected and criticized, but when you are commissioned by God, accept your assignment and do it.
If any of these resonate with your spirit and you know that you have been called and, yet you are running.  Stop!  Ask God to forgive you and to give you the strategies to fulfill your assignment.  You won't regret it!

Kingdom Blessings,

DeborahT
