Fear is marketable.
Think about it, every year millions, if not billions of dollars are made on Halloween and horror movies. Mainstream news are primary marketers of fear with daily news that centers on adversity, crime, and societal dysfunction. Fear sells, but fear is not of God. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 If left unchecked fear can paralyze the human spirit. Fear leads to increased prescription use as a coping mechanism to cure or reduce anxiety, depression, and/or worry. So, how can you conquer fear? Below are four ways to conquer fear. Disclaimer: The information listed are suggestions to help reduce fear. Seek professional advice if your condition is excessive. Awareness. Be aware of what you are thinking. Are your thoughts laced with fear? Are you speaking fear instead of faith. The first key to conquering fear is awareness of internal conversations. Replacement. Turn off the source. Turn off the news. Avoid conversations or watching movies that generate fear, and replace fearful sources with positive affirmations or scriptures. Pay attention to what is allowed into your spirit. Guard your ear and eye gates. Avoid entertaining voices that feed and market fear. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 Side Note: Replacement is not elimination of what is happening in the world. Ignoring truth is denying reality. Increase your level of faith though replacement until faith squelches the voice of fear and the power of God's love rises in you. Journal. Studies support journaling. Journaling has numerous positive properties. Journaling helps reduce anxiety. Journaling clears the inner spirit and frees up the thoughts racing in the mind. Journaling enhances memory and strengthens one's relationship with God. Music. Play encouraging music (e.g., worship, praise, or something uplifting) Music helps the mind focus on something other than fear. Music has a soothing affect. Music can bring healing.
